Tongue Tie

Ankyloglossia, tongue tie’s scientific name, is a condition present at birth that restricts the child’s tongue’s range of motion. It involves the presence of a short, thick, or tight band of tissue that forces the child’s tongue to the floor of their mouth. In addition to trouble speaking, eating, and swallowing, it can also impede their ability to breastfeed.

Tongue tie is most likely associated with certain genetic factors. Some doctors prefer to take a wait-and-see approach, but most prefer to surgically correct the condition.
